Royan and the Beaches

Around 40 minutes drive from Les Girauderies, Royan has a long history as a seaside resort with bustling port and seafront with plenty of shops, cafés and restaurants. See route map below which also highlights the beaches and attractions nearby which this part of the Charente-Maritime is so well known for. Especially worth a visit are: Meschers – it’s the village and beaches that attracts most people here. The three main ones are called Nonnes (the main beach), Vergnes (a little to the north) and Suzac. Meschers has a small port with plenty of cafes and there’s an interesting troglodyte cave carved into the rock along the seafront. St Georges-de Didonne, St-Palais-sur- Mer. Both offer glorious, sandy beaches.
